Surabaya is a second metropolis city in Indonesia. It’s the capital city of East Java. Surabaya is a reference of East Indonesian Region in the field of industry, trade, education and also ocean.

In Indonesian history, Surabaya has a big role in freedom struggle of Indonesia. Once upon a time, something that would be an unforgettable moment by this nation is the struggle of people in Surabaya known as the “10 November 1945″ incident.

The well known spirit of “Rawe-rawe Rantas Malang-malang Putung” had driven the citizen of Surabaya to fight against the Ally troops which is intruded by NICA. This troops had a mission to take over Surabaya once again. In this incident, the ally general, Mallaby, was killed. History of Jakarta

Jakarta, the capital of the nation, has a fascinating history. Lots of different aspects have colored the city history and the life of people today. Since the fifth century, ships from China and Champa (Vietnam), and from all islands in the archipelago docked at the mouth of the Ciliwung River. Indian and Portuguese traders also visited this small town. Javanese sailors, carrying spices from Molucca, were also docked there. Nearly all people from the East and West left their trails to blend special flavor of Jakarta. During centuries later, the city port grew into a bustling international trade center. At that time, between 17th and early 18 centuries, ships could sail further up to the river Ciliwung. Towards the south of this drawbridge, the once busy harbor town of Sunda Kelapa stretched along both sides of the river between the 12th century and 15th century.

Sunda Kalapa was the main port of the Hindu Kingdom of Sunda. The capital of the Pakuan Pajajaran kingdom was located two days journey upriver, now known as Bogor. Ships often visited this port from Palembang, Tanjungpura, Malacca, Maccasar and Madura, and even by merchants from India and South China. Sunda Kelapa exported, among other items, pepper, rice and gold.

In 1513 the first European fleet, four Portuguese ships under the command of Alvin, arrived in Sunda Kelapa from Malacca. Malacca had been conquered two years earlier by Alfonso d’ Albuquerque. They were looking for spices, especially pepper, to this busy and well-organized harbor. Some years later, the Portuguese Enrique Leme visited Kalapa with presents for the King of Sunda. He was well received and on August 21, 1522 signed a treaty of friendship between the kingdom of Sunda and Portugal. The Portuguese received the right to build a go down (warehouse) and to erect a fort in Kalapa. This was regarded by the Sundanese as a consolidation of their position against the encroaching Muslim troops from the rising power of the Sultanate of Demak in Central Java.

To commemorate this treaty, they put big stone, called a Padrao, which vanished for some years. This stone was uncovered later in 1918 during an excavation for a new house in Kota area on the corner of Cengkeh Street and Nelayan Timur Street. This Padrao can now be seen in the National Museum on Medan Merdeka Barat Street. The original location of the stone suggests that the coastline in the early 16th century formed a nearly straight line, which is marked by the present of Nelayan Street, some 400 meters south to the Lookout Tower. The King of Sunda had his own reasons for great danger from the expansive Muslim Kingdom of Demak, whose troops threatened his second harbor town, Banten (west of Jakarta). Sunda felt squeezed and was in need of strong friends. Thus, the king hoped the Portuguese would return quickly and help him protect his important harbor. But they came too late. For in 1527 the Muslim leader Fatahillah appeared before Kalapa with 1,452 soldiers from Cirebon and Demak.

According to some historians, this victory of 1527 provided the reason for Fatahillah to rename Sunda Kelapa, Jayakarta, which means “Great Deed” or “Complete Victory.” On the basis of this victory, Jakarta celebrates its birthday on June 22, 1527; the day Fatahillah gave the town a name of victory of over Sundanese Hindus and Portuguese sailor. Prince Jayawikarta, a follower of the Sultan of Banten, resided on the west banks of Ciliwung river, which in the early 17th century reached the roughly at our starting place, the Lookout at Pasar Ikan. He erected a military post there in order to control the mouth of the river and the Dutch who had been granted permission in 1610 to build a wooden go down and some houses just opposite there on the east bank. Dutch ships had already come to Jayakarta in 1596. The Prince tried to keep a close eye on these unruly guests.

To keep its strength equal to that of the Dutch, Prince Jayawikarta allowed the British to erect houses on the West Bank of Ciliwung River, across the Dutch go down, in 1615. The Prince granted permission to the British to erect a fort closed to his Customs Office post. Jayawikarta was in support of the British because his palace was under the threat of the Dutch cannons. In December 1618, the tense relationship between Prince Jayawikarta and the Dutch escalated. Jayawikarta soldiers besieged the Dutch fortress that covered two strong go down, namely Nassau and Mauritus. The British fleet made up of 15 ships arrived. The fleet was under the leadership of Sir Thomas Dale, former governor of the Colony of Virginia, now known as Virginia State in the United States.

The British admiral was already old and was indecisive. After the sea battle, the newly appointed Dutch governor Jan Pieter Soon Coon (1618) escaped to Molucca to seek support. Meanwhile, the commander of the Dutch army was arrested when the negotiation was underway because Jayawikarta felt that the Dutch deceived him. Then, the Prince Jayawikarta and the British entered into a friendship agreement.

The Dutch army was about to surrender to the British when in 1619, a sultan from Banten sent soldiers and summoned Prince Jayawikarta for establishing closed relationship with the British without first asking an approval from Banten authorities. The conflict between Banten and Prince Jayawikarta as well as the tensed relationship between Banten and the British had weakened the Dutch enemy. Prince Jayawikarta was moved to Tanara and died in Banten. The Dutch felt relieved and tried to establish a closer relationship with the Banten. The Dutch fortress garrison, along with hired soldiers from Japan, Germany, Scotia, Denmark, and Belgium held a party in commemoration of the change in situation. They name their fortress after Batavia to recollect the ethnic group Batavier, the Dutch ancestor. Since then Jayakarta was called Batavia for more than 300 years.

Under the relationship of J.P Coen, Dutch army attacked and destroyed the city and Jayakarta Palace on May 30, 1619. There were no remains of Jakarta except for the Padrao stone now stored at the National Museum in Jakarta. The Jayakarta grave was possibly located in Pulau Gadung. If we stand on top of Menara Syahbandar and look around, we can enjoy the beautiful panorama in the oldest area of Batavia. Certainly, we can’t enjoy the remains of the city Sunda Kelapa or Jayakarta. Kasteel or the Dutch fortress, too, has been destroyed. Here we can see several remains from the mid-17th century. Nearly all of the remains are related to trade and sailing.

Syahbandar Tower was built 1839 to replace the old flagpole in ship dock located right on the side across a river. From the pole and later the tower, officials observed ships about to anchor gave signals. The tower then is used a meteorology post. To the West of the Lookout Tower, we can see the view of the present Bahari Museum. The museum represents a very old and strong edifice with Dutch architecture. The museum also provides several maps of the city, with stages of the city development shown. The museum is part of something in Dutch called Westzijdsche Pakhuizen (Warehouse on the West bank. Here nutmegs, pepper, coffee, tea, and cloth in a large scale were used to be stored.

The area around Syahbandar Tower was once the center of Kota Batavia. It was the center of a trading network with wide spread agents reaching Deshima (Nagasaki) in Japan, Surate in Persia and Cape town in South Africa. Inter-trade among Asia was more profitable than inter-trade between Asia and Europe. And the Pasar Ikan (Market Fish) once was the pulse. Here, the site where the origin of the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, came from.

An extensive park to get a glimpse of the diverseness of the Indonesian archipelago, it represents Indonesia’s provinces and their outstanding characteristics, reflected most strikingly in the exact regional architecture of the province. It has its own orchid garden in which hundreds of Indonesian orchid varieties are grown.

Historical sites

Angke Mosque

Jl. Pangeran Tubagus Angke West Jakarta

The Angke Mosque is in West Jakarta and is easily reached by minibus from Fatahillah Square or the Kota railway station. It is the only mosque in Jakarta that has remained unaltered since it was built. Its roof is on two levels, the typical Javanese style for roofs of places of worship. In 1856 Prince Syarif Hamid, a Sultan from Pontianak was captured by the Dutch and held at Manggadua. When he died he was buried in front of the mosque on July 17, 1858. People from Pontianak often visit his grave and many of them have decided to stay at Angke. Many Chinese in this area are devout Moslems. Many tombstones near the mosque bear Chinese as well as Arabic inscriptions. But the oldest tombstones show Islamic Banten and Aceh origins

Cathedral Church

This tall and beautiful church on the northern corner of Banteng Square is called Saint Mary’s Cathedral. All catholic religious ceremonies were once held here. In the mid-1800s the Governor General at that time issued a decree that all affairs related to religious ceremonies be the responsibility of the Catholic Church. As a result, in 1879 the church was in such a state from overuse that is was considered dangerous. A year later one of the pillars collapsed and it was obvious that much effort and money would be needed to restore the building to its former state. Restoration went ahead and in 1901 the church was ready. It was officially opened by Bishop E.F. Leupen on April 21. At present it is still the most beautiful church in Jakarta

Immanuel Church

This church is situated in front of the Gambir railway station, at the corner of Jl. Pejambon. Plans of its construction were drawn uo in the 19th century when Weltevreden (Gambir) was still a satellite town of coastal Batavia. Many people had moved to this satellite town and the then existing church became too small. The community banded together to built a larger church and funds came from many sources, including 92.000 guilders from Governor General Baud. Construction began on the birthday of King Willem I on August 24, 1835 and lasted four years until August 24, 1839. The church was then named Willemskerk. During the Japanese occupation the church was a repository of the ashes of Japanese soldiers killed in the war. In 1948 the church was renamed Immanuel Church and today this black domed church offers sermons in Indonesian, English and Japanese.

Istiqlal Mosque

Kebon Jeruk Mosque

This mosque is located at Jl. Hayam Wuruk near the Sawah Besar – Ketapang pedestrian bridge. It was built in 1786, the first mosque for Chinese Moslems in the Glodok (Chinatown) region. In 1957 this mosque was rebuilt and given some additions. At the back of the mosque is a Moslem grave. This is the grave of Atimah Hwu, who probably died in 1792. She was thought to be the wife of the founder of the mosque, Chan Tsin Hwu, a merchant and devout Moslem. This man left his wife to go traveling to spread the teachings of Islam

Merdeka Palace

The Presidential palace is situated at Jl. Merdeka Utara. It was built by Pieter Tency in 1874 and after he died, it became the property of a certain Van Isseldijk. In 1822 it was sold to Raffles, the then Lieutenant Governor for Java and its dependencies during the British interregnum (1811 – 1816). Raffles extended the courtyard and placed many beautiful statues there. From 1816 – 1826 the building was used by Governor General Van der Capellen and until 1830 by Governor General Du Bus de Gisegnies. The last Governor General to have occupied the palace was Tjarda van Starkenborgh Stachouer, who on March 8, 1942 surrendered to the Japanese forces at Kalijati airfield, accompanied by General H. Ter Poorten. Today the building is the official residence of the President and on Independence Day (August, 17) it is the center of national commemoration ceremonies.

Sunda Kelapa Harbor

The picturesque old harbor of Jakarta was built in the early 17th century (reconstructed and expanded in 1817) and today still serves as the port of call for perahu pinisi (sailing cargo vessels). Navigated primarily by Bugis and Makassarese traders, these charming and colorful vessels form one of the world’s few major commercial sailing fleets, transporting raw materials from Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Visitors will marvel at the amazing strength of the sailors and workers who load and unload goods manually without the help of any equipment. A conversation with them sometimes earns an invitation aboard. The name translates as Bugis Schooner Harbor, and it’s home to traditional pinisi prahu, the sailing vessels that ship goods between the islands of Indonesia. An active port since the 1100s, and once a center of the spice trade, the harbor now handles raw materials like timber logged in Borneo and Sumatra and rice and kapok (cotton) from Sulawesi. Loading and unloading is purely manual: Workers carry enormous loads on their shoulders as they clamber up and down steep gangplanks. You can take a small rowboat to the Fish Market across the river for about 5,000 Rp. The harbor is within walking distance of Museum Bahari.

Fish Market

The Maritime Museum (Museum Bahari), situated at the harbor, is housed in restored Dutch ware-houses dating back to the first trading post of the Dutch East Indies. National Monument

The National Monument (Indonesian: Monumen Nasional (Monas)) is a 422 ft (128.7 m) tower in Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia’s independence. Construction began in 1961 under the direction of President Sukarno and the monument was opened to the public in 1975. It is topped by a flame covered with gold foil.
Background
After the Indonesian government returned to Jakarta from Yogyakarta in 1950 following the Dutch recognition of Indonesian independence, President Sukarno began to contemplate the construction of a national monument comparable to the Eiffel Tower on the square in front of the presidential palace. On 17 August 1954, a National Monument Committee was established and a design competition was held in 1955. This attracted 51 entries, but only one design, by Frederich Silaban, met any of the criteria determined by the committee, which included reflecting the character of Indonesia in a building capable of lasting for centuries. A repeat competition was held in 1960, but once again, none of the 136 entries met the criteria. The chairman of the jury team then asked Silaban to show his design to Sukarno. However, Sukarno did not like the design as he wanted the monument to be in the form of a linga and yoni. Silaban was asked to design such a monument, but his design was so for a monument so large that it would have been unaffordable given the economic conditions at the time. Silaban refused to design a smaller monument, suggesting that construction be delayed until the Indonesian economy improved. Sukarno then asked the architect R.M. Soedarsono to continue with the design. Soedarsono incorporated the numbers 17, 8 and 45, representing the 17 August 1945 Proclamation of Indonesian Independence, in the dimensions of the monument.

Construction proceeded in three stages. The first period, from 1961/1962 – 1964/1965 began with the official start of construction on 17 August 1961 with Sukarno ceremonially driving in the first concrete pile. A total of 284 piles were used for the foundation block. A further 360 piles were driven in for the museum foundations, with work being completed in March 1962. The walls of the museum in the base were completed by October. Construction of the obelisk than commenced and was finished in August 1963. Work in the second stage, from 1966 to 1968 was delayed by shortages of funding and the aftermath of the 30 September Movement coup attempt. In the final phase, from 1969-1976, the dioramas for the historical museum were added. Problems remained once construction was complete, and work was needed to solve problems with water leaking into the museum. The monument was officially opened to the public on 12 July 1975.[4][5] The location of the construction site was formerly known as Merdeka Square.

Monument design

The monument consists of a 117.7m obelisk on a 45m square platform at a height of 17m, the goblet yard. The obelisk itself is clad with Italian marble. A lift inside carries visitors to the 11m by 11m viewing platform, at a height of 115m. There is also a staircase for use in emergencies. It is topped by a 14.5 ton bronze Flame of Independence containing the lift engine, which is covered with 35kg[1] or 50kg[6] of gold foil. The obelisk and flame symbolize the Indonesia people’s struggle for independence. Inside the base is the historical museum, a marble-lined room with 48 dioramas depicting scenes from Indonesian history from prehistory until the New Order (Indonesia), and the Independence Room (Indonesian: Ruang Kemerdekaan), which contains symbols of Indonesian independence, including the Declaration of Independence in a glass case, and the Indonesia coat of arms.[1][7]

A pond measuring 25 by 25m was designed to cool water for the air conditioning system in the monument as well as to enhance the beauty of the surrounding area. To the north of the monument, there is a statue of Indonesia national hero Prince Diponegoro by Italian sculptor Cobertaldo

The Museum of History of Jakarta, is the one displaying the history of the development of the City of Jakarta, both the events and the community, from the prae-history until these present days. This museum is located in a building of cultural property which in the past known as Stadhuis, the City Hall of Batavia. As written on an inscription of the Museum collection, the building was constructed in 1707 by the city government of Batavia during the period of the VOC and it was inaugurated in 1710 by Governor General Abraham van Riebeeck. This building is located in front of a park, which in the past was known as Stadhuisplein, the City Hall Park, and now it is called Taman Fatahillah.

Since 1970, the surroundings of Taman Fatahillah has been declared as Cultural Property and it was totally preserved. This effort was the beginning of the development of the historical area of the City of Jakarta, carried out by the Government of DKI Jakarta. The Museum of History of Jakarta was in augurated on 30 March 1974 for being the center for collection, conservation and research for all kinds of objects of cultural property related to the history of the City of Jakarta and at the same time becomes a center for education, study and recreation for the community. Due the very long course of the history of Jakarta, the collection of this Museum are highly varied in shape and consist of objects being the heritage of the prae-historical period until the beginning of the 20th century.

There are among other the replica of the Tugu Inscription from the age of Great King Purnawarman, forming an evidence that the center of the Kingdom of Tarumanegara was located in around the seaport of Tanjung Priok. Further, the historical evidence of the age of Sunda Kelapa Harbour is represented by a map of the 16th century and the replica of the Padrao monument of the Portuguese. The period of Jayakarta and the beginning of the establishment of the City bronze cannon and through various drawings and maps of the 17th century. Collection of furniture of Betawi style from the 17th, 18th and 19th century is the richest collection and belongs to the most complete one in the world. This collection is very interesting since its reflects the association of the community of the City of Batavia with various cultural elements from Europe, especially Dutch, China, India and Indonesia.

Shadow Puppets Museum

This artistic building at Jalan Pintu Besar Utara no 27, West Jakarta, was built in 1912, previously as land of a church which was built in 1640 under the name of De Oude Hollandsche Kerk (The Old Dutch Churh). In 1732 it was renovated and its name was changed into De Nieuwe Hollandsche Kerk (The New Dutch Church). The church building was once totally destroyed by an earthquake. Bataviasche Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen (Batavia Society of Arts and Sciences), that was an institution dealing with science and Indonesian culture bought this building.

This building was then delivered by this institution to the Stichting Oud Batavia (Old Batavia Foundation) and on 22 December 1939. It was made a museum under the name of Oude Bataviasche Museum (Old Batavia Museum). In 1957 this building was delivered to Lembaga Kebudayaan Indonesia (Institute of Indonesian Culture) and on 17 September 1962 it was delivered to the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, which later was delivered to the DKI Jakarta Administration on 23 June 1968 to be made Shadow Puppet Museum, which inauguration was carried out on 13 August 1975.

Shadow Puppet (commonly known as wayang) in Indonesia, especially on Java Island, was originally a product of the Royal Court culture. It was first used as an instrument of worship to the ancestors, and after the Hindu culture entered Indonesia in around the 5th century, it developed shifting of values.

The world of Indonesian shadow puppet got characteristically influence especially in term of story, like the Ramayana (the Story of Rama) and Mahabharata (the Great Bharata), making the form of presentation keep on changing and with wider range in performance and in the theme of the story. In its later development the Indonesian shadow puppet had become a such tradition, that it has been capable to hold out in the supporting community consisting of various elements. Visitors of this Museum are invited to know various characters, attitude and behaviour of the story from various regions through the performance of shadow puppet that has weight of high value in our culture and viewing a number of collections of shadow puppet like wayang kulit, wayang golek, patung wayang, topeng wayang, wayang beber, wayang kaca, gamelan (traditional music instrument set) as well as wayang paintings.

This Museum also displays various collections of wayang and dolls from friendly countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Suriname, China, Vietnam, France, India and Cambodia. It is not merely to be an object for recreation, study for students/ devotee can be carried out in this Museum, and this Museum even can be used as venue for training, documentation center and research on shadow puppet, and it can be used as inter-regional and international media on cultural knowledge. To support its existence, in this Museum wayang staging and attraction of wayang making are periodically organized.

History and Aims
On April 24, 1778, a group of Dutch intellectuals established a scientific institution under the name Bataviaasch Genotschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen, (Batavia Society for Arts and Science). This private body had the aim of promoting research in the field of arts and sciences, especially in history, archaeology, ethnography and physics, and publish the various findings.

One of the founders – JCM Radermacher – donated a building and a collection of cultural objects and books, which were of great value to start off a museum and library for the society. Due to the growing collections, General Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles built a new premises on Jalan Majapahit No. 3 at the beginning of the 19th century and named it the Literary Society. In the 1862 the Dutch East Indian government decided to build a new museum that would not only serve as an office but also could be used to house, preserve and display the collections.

The Museum was officially opened in 1868 and became known as Gedung Gajah (Elephant House) or Gedung Arca (House of Statues). It was called Gedung Gajah on account of the bronze elephant statue in the front yard donated by King Chulalongkorn from Thailand in 1871. It was also called Gedung Arca because a great variety of statues from different periods are on display in the house.

On February 29, 1950 the Institution became the Lembaga Kebudayaan Indonesia (Indonesian Culture Council) and on September 17, 1962 it was handed over to the Indonesian government and became the Museum Pusat (Central Museum). By decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 092/0/1979 of May 28, 1979 it was renamed the Museum Nasional. The Museum Nasional is not only a centre for research and study into the national and cultural heritage, but also functions as an educative, cultural and recreational information centre.

Currently the Musium Nasional houses collections of 109,342 objects under the categories of prehistory, archaeology, ethnography, numismatics-heraldic, geography and historical relics.

In 1994, the museum started with is expansion project. The new building, constructed in the same architectural style as the old, comprises an arena for theatrical performances and more spaces for exhibitions. The building is scheduled for completion this year.

Conservation & Services
Daily activities at the Museum Nasional include collecting, caring for and protecting collections and providing information on the museum and its collections to visitors and the public at large. The Indonesian Heritage Society (HIS) voluntarily assists the museum in handling the inventory of the collections.

The museum’s Conservation and Restoration Division is dedicated to conserving and restoring the collected objects in order to protect them from possible damages and loss. The staff also take preventive measures against possible damages or loss through manual, alarm and control system.

The Museum Nasional is open from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, from 8.30 am to 11.30 am on Friday, and from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm on Saturday.

The Building History

Fine Arts and Ceramic Building Museum was built in 1870. At the beginning the building was used as Dutch Judiciary Institution or Raad Van Justitie,then when Japan colonized Indonesia and the fight for Indonesia

freedom occurred the building was used as military dormitory, Furthermore it was used as West Jakarta Mayor’s Office in 1967. In 1968 until 1975 it was used as office of DKI Jakarta Museum and History Official. On Agust 20 th 1976 it was announced officially as Fine Arts Gallery Building and now become Fine Arts and Ceramic Museum.

Fine Arts Collections
This museum has around 400 fine arts, which consist of many different techniques and materials, such as sculpture, graphic, wood totem, sketch, and painting batik.

Among those collection there are some masterpieces, collections that useful for the art history in Indonesia. They are “Revolution Bride” painting by Hendra Gunawan, “Lebak Regent” painting by Raden Saleh. “Mother Give Sick” painting by Dullah, “Tritura Paramilitary Troops” painting by S. Sudjojono, and “Self-Potrait” painting by Affandi.

Traditional clasiccal sculpture from Bali, magical and symbolic wood totem by Tjokot and families, Totem and wood sculpture by modern artists, such as G. Sidharta, Oesman Effendi. Then followed by academy graduate artists creation, like Popo Iskandar, Achmad Sadali, Srihadi S. Fajar Sidik, Kusnadi, Rusli, Nashar, Zaini, Amang Rahman, Suprapto, Irsam. Mulyadi W, Abas Alibasyah, Amri Yahya, AS Budiono, Barli, Sudjana Kerton and many other artists from various regions.

There are plenty of ceramic collections in this museum, consist of local and also foriegn ceramic. the local ceramic comes from Aceh, Medan, Palembang, Lampung, Jakarta, Bandung, Purwakarta, Yogyakarta, Malang, Bali, Lombok, etc.
This Museum has also Majapahit ceramic from the 14 th century, which show beatiful extraordinary characteristic and have history value with various shapes and functions.

The foreign ceramic of various shapes, characteristics, functions, and styles from China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Dutch, Germany. and Middle East. The greatest numbers are from China, especially from Ching and Ming Dinasty.

Short History
The first public zoo named “Planten En Dierentuin” in Batavia (Jakarta) officially opened in 1864 on a site known as Cikini area, Central Jakarta, operated Association of Flora and Fauna Lover at Batavia (Culturule Vereniging Planten en Dierentuin at Batavia). The area is 10 hectares, it’s granted by Raden Saleh, a famous painter of Indonesia.
After Indonesia gained freedom from the Dutch, its name changed Cikini zoo in 1949. The site at Cikini area had become too small and was not suited to the vision. A new site for the zoo was sought. In 1964 the Jakarta Government granted 30 hectares of land south of Jakarta suburb in Ragunan, Pasar Minggu.
Ragunan zoo was officially opened on June 22, 1966 by Governor of Jakarta City named Taman Margasatwa Ragunan (Ragunan Zoological Park). The management of the zoo passed to an animal lover, Benjamin Gaulstaun as first director.

Children Zoo
The Children Zoo is a miniature zoo for children study on animals. You can find any kind animals, like chicken, goats, cows, rabbits and another domesticated animals. You can find some kind of animals like siamang-gibbon, deers, tree kangaroos, leaf monkeys and ring-tailed lemurs. The lake is also a paradise for water bird like cormorant, darter, heron, stork, ibis, and king fisher and some other vertebrate like small – clawed otter, and swamp snake. You can go around the islands by canoe.

Schmutzer Primate Center
The primate center has a role’s play of important in primate conservation and also as the Windows of Primate Information. The 13 hectares – complex of primate center is designed by concept open zoo where the animals live like in their natural habitat in the wild. Facilities available include captive breeding, kitchen, laboratory, quarantine and zoo education center.

Flinstone Raft
Flinstone Raft is a new media of recreation shaped canoe made of fiberglass similar to logs. It’s shaped square measured around 2×4 meters. The capacity can reach 25 people. The model is made imitate pre historic canoe like Flinstone film and powered by machine.

Ancol Jakarta Bay City

Other classic attractions include Bianglala (ferris wheel), Kora-Kora (swinging ship) and spinning cups ride. [1]

Several of the latest and newest rides are Power Surge (2004), Perang Bintang (Star Wars) (2005) interactive dark ride, Meteor Attack (2006) and Tornado (2007). Some seasonal attractions include Le Belles cabaret show, Russian Circus and Euro Kids Circus. Major renovation have recently been completed on the main entrance facade and ticket booths.

One of the most famous attraction is named Rama Sinta. It is a dark ride that retells the famous Indonesian folktale of the same name with advanced technology. However, this ride has been closed due to fire that broke out early in the morning. The theater that used to house the ride is currently left unoccupied.

SETU BABAKAN

Setu Babakan is a great visage of the traditional life in Jakarta which is located in Srengseng Sawah District of South Jakarta.

A colourful keleidoscope of traditional await every visitor at this 66-hecatare area known as Perkampungan Budaya Betawi or the Betawi Culture Preservation Village. Setu itself means a small lake used by Betawis. As the name sugests, Setu Babakan sorrounded by an 18-hectare of water which provides the tranquil setting for a meaningful and nuanced cultural exploration

Be prepared to get an awesome insight into the Betawi culture such as the lenong(a traditional Betawi comedy play), topeng dance, Betawi traditional wedding and of course the iconic Ondel-ondel, a giant puppet dressed in a traditional Betawi costume with a colorful tinsel crown. In addition, explore a traditional Betawi house built back in 1920s. Rent a duck boat to ride on the lake to complete your visit.

People here still speak the unique Betawi dialect, which is a conflation of a Malay dialect influenced by the Ballinese languagefor the grammar and Hokien Chinese for the vocabulary. Interact with the friendly Betawis and get up close and personal with their notable blend of music such as Rebana, Keroncong and Samroh which are largely inflluenced by the Portuguese and Arabic

Best time to visit is between June and July where special festivals are organised to commemorate Jakarta’s anniversary.

This tour visit to Trowulan village as the site of 15th AD’s last Hindu Kingdom in Indonesia as well as the greatest empire Indonesia ever had, Majapahit kingdom. The observation include the museum which houses many beautiful terracota ornaments, pottery and stone carvings, ceramic of Chinese heritage, statues (including the most beautiful Visnu portrait sculpture mounting a mythical Garuda bird), Bajang Ratu and Wringin Lawang entry gate temple, Tikus royal bathing temple. The tour includes a drive through a beautiful countryside and terraced rice fields on returning back to Surabaya.

SUB – 03 = MIDNIGHT BROMO TOUR

This tour is one of most exciting excursion in East Java. At midnight, leaving Surabaya/Tretes/ Malang/Batu to Cemara Lawang village (about 3 hours drive). Next get the pony riding and trotting down the steep slope of Mts. Tengger, crossing the sea-of-sand, and climbing up 245 steps to reach the awesome rim crater where like other tourists wait for the sunrise cracking up the day through its rays from the eastern range of Mts. Tengger. From here a marvelous views of Mt. Bromo and its surrounding can be seen (subject to the weather). After that, back to the village and have breakfast. Next drive back to Surabaya / Tretes / Malang / Batu.

This tour features the colorful annual traditional festival bull race in Madura Island. The race is held from August up to beginning October as the grand final. The race starts with a series of heats in all villages, sub district, and districts, until the grand final in Pamekasan town to be the winner of the President Cup. The very courage jockey pulls down a pair of bull’s tails and drives them to run straight and fast and bumps in quick for balance. The noisy and loud voice of the crowd waves endlessly as racing is on and traditional music instrument pumping up till the finishing race.
